Situated in a picturesque village in the Spanish Pyrenees, the five-star Mercer Hotel Torre del Remei blends old and new in a mountain setting perfect for a winter getaway. The historic hotel, included on the List of Catalan Architectural Heritage, is housed in a 1910 Modernist-style mansion, with additional rooms in converted stables.
Its meticulously restored interiors, overseen by Amanda Molina, design director of Mercer Hotels, reflect a French neoclassical influence and feature period details such as stately columns, stained-glass windows, and intricate plasterwork.
Each of the 24 guestrooms and suites is unique and elegantly appointed with a mix of midcentury and contemporary furnishings from icons including Gio Ponti and Arne Jacobsen as well as Space Copenhagen, Norman Foster, and more. The distinctive designs are unified by the use of natural materials like soft leather headboards, marble coffee tables, and lush linen curtains.
The selection of Vibia’s North floor pendant rounds out the guestrooms’ refined décor. Designed by Arik Levy, it features three separate pieces—an aluminum shade, a slender carbon fiber stem, and a counterweight on the floor that connects to the electrical cable—that serve as a dynamic system of adjustable parts.
North floor pendant’s minimalist élan matches the hotel’s understated aesthetic, exuding timeless beauty in a contemporary silhouette. The deconstructed design allows its slender arm to stretch seamlessly across space, its pale palette blending into the color scheme.
The floor pendants’ rods cantilever from walls next to the windows. It creates the effect of light being conveyed from the exterior to the interior. Suspended serenely overhead in the center of the rooms are the triangular shades, which cast a focused light that brightens the tables below.
